Virtual Strides 4 CMV in Minneapolis, MN, August 15, 2020

The Devereaux family had never heard of congenital CMV before their unborn child was diagnosed with infection at 20 weeks gestation. After Cytogam infusions during the remainder of pregnancy, Philippa ("Pippa") was born at 34 weeks gestation, in 2015. Her current diagnoses include: intellectual disability, polymicrogyria, developmental delay, hearing loss, and epilepsy. Her parents note that she is an extremely happy and sweet child and a bright light for everyone that has the opportunity to know her. They are passionate about ensuring that all families learn about cCMV and how it can be prevented. Register for "Strides 4 CMV" in Minneapolis on August 15 - this year, the event is remote (COVID-compatible!) - and read about the event here: https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/Tampa/Strides4CMVTwinCities.

June is CMV Awareness Month-Virtual 5K "Strides for CMV"!

June is National CMV Awareness Month! The CDC has terrific resources posted about congenital CMV infection. To promote CMV and CMV Awareness Month, CDC offers fact sheets, videos, infographics, and other resources for pregnant women, parents, and healthcare providers. These resources aim to increase understanding of congenital CMV and to support families affected by congenital CMV. Check out their products in the CMV Resource Center.

Join the National CMV Foundation in raising awareness for congenital cytomegalovirus by participating in a virtual 5K, "Strides for CMV". This event will be completely virtual and held on June 27th. This will be going on nationally; since can't all be together physically, we can still make a difference apart! Since this event is virtual, you choose your own starting line, starting time, and route. Your challenge is to walk, run, or roll for 5k (3.1 miles) on June 27th, and if you feel up for it, post your accomplishment on social media with the hashtags #stopcmv and #strides4cmv so we can see how well you did!

If you want to register your participation there is a link this to this event here.

Kudos to the National CMV Foundationfor its outstanding work in advocacy and education about congenital CMV!

CMV at the Minnesota State Fair, St. Paul, MN, August 26, 27, & 31 2019: "CMV@D2D"

Come to the "Driven to Discover" (D2D) booth at the Minnesota State Fair! In partnership with Dr. Logan Spector, Dr. Schleiss will be conducted a CMV study using a simple saliva swab on children 0-5 years of age. Moms can give samples too, but not required! We want to understand how common CMV is in children ages 0-5. Look at the poster providing more study details here. CMV study enrollment will be on the morning of August 26th, 27th or 31st, but anyone attending the fair should always stop by the D2d booth to participate in a wide range of studies!
